MY INITIAL POST IS:
Decision making in nursing requires a basis of evidence to ensure expertise. Strength and credibility are guaranteed through
evidence-based practice in the nursing profession. The clinical scholarship allows the interactive collaboration of nurses with other
professionals in the medical field. The application of evidence-based practice ensures the adoption of new strategies and
methodologies in the dynamic provision of healthcare (Tymkow, 2011). Evidence-based practice is an intellectual process that
advocates for research to improve the quality of service provided by nurses. Moreover, constant discovery, integration, and application
of new knowledge ensure professional growth and advanced problem-solving skills among nurses. The creation of a sustainable
learning environment where nurses can evaluate and translate new researches in the work environment provides professionalism in
healthcare provision. Thus, evidence-based practice is vital in maintaining competence in nursing.
Application of Scholarship for Evidence-Based Practice in BSN
Professionalism involves constant research of new evidence in the nursing field. As a student, regular research is inevitable. According
to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (1998), collaboration with colleagues through discussion of interpreted evidence
is essential in improving patient understanding. Therefore, I applied evidence-based practice through discussions and collaborated
research about practical ways that can be used in improving patient care. Participation in online classes discussion provided a
sharing of professional experiences during nursing practices. Additionally, classmates were able to positively compare the integration
of theory learned in class and additional information acquired through interaction with patients. A comparison of individual nursing
experiences enabled verification of data gained from books and other online sources. Therefore, through constructive research
discussions with classmates, the evidence-based practice was applied in the courses include of this course too.

Why is a professional nursing practice grounded in the translation of current evidence into practice?
A good profession is grounded on certain aspects that govern all the operations of the workers in that field of specialization. This makes it hard for other people, especially those who lack the professional qualifications to deliver competent services. In clinical practice, professionalism is marked by healthcare professionals’ ability to offer evidence-based practices that lead to improved health. The inclusion of EBP in nursing provides nurses with scientific research to make well-founded decisions. Through EBP, nurses can stay updated about new medical protocols for patient care (Dang & Dearholt, 2017). With the EBP, as nurses, we ensure that all our undertakings are based on the needs of patients in the clinical practice. This is different from what used to happen in the clinical sector many years back when the doctors had primary obligation over the patients’ medication. This shows the significance of EBP is the central element in the clinical practice for quality care (Cipher, Mancini, & Shrestha, 2017).
Describing how you met Essential III during the BSN program. Provide specific examples
In my BSN program, I have been considerate of meeting all the essentials of professional competencies. For example, my communication with the other healthcare practitioner has been effective, and this has been leading to the acquisition of the basics of clinical practice. The aspect of health education is critical for nurses, and I have been emphasizing the attainment of all the basics of health education, including how to respond to patients’ needs. I have no doubt this has led to my success as a clinician. Observing the ethics related to human health is a primary factor of interest among all healthcare practitioners. In my BSN program, I learned how to keep my actions following the ethics of healthcare.

Nursing Essential III in our text is “Scholarship for Evidence-Based Practice.” The emphasis in our program on “Evidence-Based Nursing” is especially important at this time in which we are beginning our careers. Things are changing so fast in our knowledge of diseases and their treatment that every nurse needs to be able to read current literature just to keep up with the field. They can’t just trust what they learned in their nursing curriculum; they have to question everything in the light of new knowledge based on research. Our Baccalaureate Education has trained us to read and understand peer-reviewed research studies and to be able to apply them to our actual nursing practice (AACN, 2008, p.15). At first, that seemed to be an unnecessary burden; we’re not really preparing to do research ourselves. But through the various courses in our training, we have come to respect the value of being able to go to the basic research sources for our understanding of the latest treatment of diseases we confront. This gives us the sense that we ourselves are medical scientists, applying what we’ve learned from our research. Besides, as the knowledge about a particular disease and its treatment grows and changes, we will be able to adapt our treatment of patients in light of this new knowledge.
The fourth item listed under Essential III as things our Baccalaureate Education will prepare us to do is to: “Evaluate the credibility of sources of information, including but not limited to databases and Internet resources” (AACN, 2008, p. 16). The COVID-19 pandemic has given me the chance to put this into practice. There have been daily reports on this new disease from the CDC and the FDA and other sources, most based on primary, scientific research. However, how serious a threat COVID-19 is has also become political (Combating, 2020). I’m constantly seeing posts on Facebook about conspiracy theories that challenge the accepted scientific view, claiming that it’s all exaggerated and there is no real threat, promoting the idea that we don’t have to maintain social distancing, wear masks, avoid large gatherings, etc. My training at West Coast University has helped me sort out true research findings from phony, conspiracy theories, to “evaluate the credibility of sources of information” (Krans, 2020). That has increased my confidence in my ability to find out the truth.
