Project 2 : Inquiry Seeks Genre

You are normally assigned topics for your papers in the form of a prompt. For this assignment, you get to choose your own topic that you will explore and write about and (briefly) research (using at least 2 sources). You will pose a how & why question about your topic, and respond to/ answer that question as your main focus. Present this research in a 750 word written text. Choose your topic wisely, as you will be reworking this topic from a written text (phase 1) to a visual piece (phase 2), which will accompany the oral presentation made in front of your classmates (phase 3). In choosing your topic for PP2, choose a topic that is adaptable to different modes and media. Since this project is focused on genre, in addition to choosing your topic/focus, you are allowed to choose the genre in which you write. It might be most comfortable to stick with a traditional academic essay (Reminder: which is not a 5 paragraph essay). That’s fine! However, you might also think about another way to represent what you have learned (For example: a news article, a blog post, a zine, a letter, an epic (750 word!) poem, a creative non-fiction piece, etc.). You’ll want to think about what genre will help you work within the constraints of this assignment and best represent your inquiry. Requirements (Constraints) The topic must have some connection to writing, communication, or composition. There is great freedom within this constraint. Use at least 2 sources to help you think about your question in your written text. Include a works cited page (MLA). This must be a written format. There is no page requirement because the shape of the writing is up to you. However, it must be at least a 750 word response to your essential how & why question. Get creative and enjoy it!
