Sometimes this course can seem atomistic and not have a cohesive thread tying all of the components together. This presentation is a method to help bring the topic of supply chain management into better focus.
The purpose of this presentation is to explore, examine, and capture these issues for a prominent company’s supply chain.
Select a company to define the product, processes, and operations management. My suggestion is you pick a well-known product from the company and complete the paper on that one product (see exceptions below).
I recommend using a company that is relatively easy to gather information on (i.e. large multi-national company that has clearly defined products or services). For some companies, it is easier to pick a specific product line and discuss it, e.g. Apple or GE. For other companies, it is easier to discuss the company as a whole, e.g. Wal-Mart or Boeing. I would not recommend automotive companies unless you have specific experience with them. Historically, students have had many issues with automotive companies because their supply chain issues are intermixed with many other issues: strikes, economic downturn, and the recent bailouts.
You need to have good sources for you information. Your entire presentation should not be sourced from Wikipedia. It is a source for basic information, such as when the company was founded, etc. The best sources are the company website and from the business press (Wall Street Journal, Investor’s Business Daily, etc.) These sources are available in EBSCO Business Source Complete and ProQuest through the library’s website.
The best advice is to treat it like a paper and put your sources in the presentation in APA format. (This is an explicit part of the rubric below.) Use parenthetical format of the presentation slides and include a reference slide at the end of the presentation. For the reference slide, show it for 15 seconds (this will not count against your time limit).
Anything that is not your original idea must be cited. See APA guide or owl.purdue.edu . If you are doing your presentation on the company that you work for, you do not need to cite every thing that you know. All that I ask is that anything that is publically available information, such as revenues, etc. have a citation. For everything else, say a disclaimer/notication at the beginning of the presentation that you are doing this on your employer and that will suffice for everything else.
